Reporting Absence

Every Day Counts

We know that children who attend school regularly achieve more highly than those who are persistently absent. We are committed to meeting our obligations with regards to school attendance by:

  • Promoting good attendance and reducing absence, including persistent absence
  • Ensuring every pupil has access to full-time education to which they are entitled
  • Acting early to address patterns of absence

We will also support parents to perform their legal duty to ensure their children of compulsory school age attend regularly, and will promote and support punctuality in attending lessons.

We work closely in partnership with families to get the very best for every child, monitoring the attendance of each child to make sure they can benefit from the maximum time spent in school.

We ask that you telephone the school when you know your child will be absent, providing the reason to be recorded in the register.

Generally, we would encourage you to send your child in to school if you are unsure if they are ill, because we will telephone you if we are worried. However, this does not apply if your child is showing any signs of coronavirus, or any other infectious illness. If you are unsure if your child has covid-19, please organise a test, or keep them away from others until you are sure they are covid free.

Attendance is reported to parents in their annual written report. Any concerns are discussed with parents and an attendance improvement plan may be put in to place where appropriate to support better attendance.
