Summer Term 2 - Week 6 - Beginning 11th July 2016
This week in Reception we will be exploring and learning a number of new and exciting things.
  • In maths, we will be focusing on problem solving.
  • Phonics will be revisiting 'oi' and 'oy'.  
  • This week in topic we are looking at 'water'. This goes from where does our water come from, to pollution and water cycle. 
  • Thursday is our Reception trip to Ashbridge Forest.
  • Friday - Veolia is coming in to help build our Bug Hotel. 

Ashridge Forest - minibeast hunting, pond dipping and nature walking... Fantastic day! Thank you to our volunteers.

Summer Term 2 - Week 5 - Beginning 4th July 2016
This week in Reception we will be exploring and learning a number of new and exciting things.
  • In maths, we will be focusing on symmetry in shapes.
  • Phonics will be revisiting 'ai' and 'ay'. 
  • This week in topic we are looking at Eid - this is a celebration for Muslims, to mark the occasion when Allah (God) appeared to Ibrahim in a dream and asked him to sacrifice his son, Ishmael, to demonstrate his devotion.
  • This week is Anti-Bullying week, and the children will have lots of activities focused around this.
Summer Term 2 - Week 4 - Beginning 27th June 2016
This week in Reception we will be exploring and learning a number of new and exciting things.
  • In maths, we will be focusing time. This will be using an analogue clock and using half past, quarter too and quarter past. 
  • Phonics will be revisiting the digraphs 'ng' and 'ue'.
  • This week in topic, we will be looking at the Olympics.
  • Friday 1st July is Sports Day.

Summer Term 2 - Week 3 - Beginning 20th June 2016
This week in Reception we will be exploring and learning a number of new and exciting things.
  • In maths, we will be focusing on number facts to 10 and 20.

  • This week is Spanish week. We will be reading different Spanish books, finding out about Spanish cities and learning about the culture.

This week in Reception we will be exploring and learning a number of new and exciting things.
  • In maths, we will be focusing on estimating and comparing the weight of objects.

  • This week in topic we are looking at Under the Sea - we will look at what is under the sea, what can we do under the sea and some of the dangerous creatures.
  • The literacy focus this week will be Pirates Love Underpants by Claire Freedman.

Summer Term 2 - Week 1 - Beginning 06th June 2016
This week in Reception we will be exploring and learning a number of new and exciting things.
  • In maths, we will be focusing on Venn diagrams. We will be choosing a variety of data and organising it into the venn diagram, for example green and fruit.

  • This week in topic we are looking at Oceans and Seas - as well as pirates!
  • The literacy focus this week will be The Night Pirates by Peter Harris. 
Summer Term 1 - Week 6 - Beginning 23rd May 2016
This week in Reception we will be exploring and learning a number of new and exciting things.
  • In maths, we will be focusing on problem solving. The children will have a variety of problems, involving the different aspects of what we have learnt this year.
  • Phonics will review all the digraphs and trigraphs we have learnt. We will also concentrate on tricky words.
  • This week in topic we are looking at nocturnal animals.
  • The literacy focus this week will be Mr Tiger Goes Wild by Peter Brown.

We had a lovely end to our term with a family picnic. Thank you to those who could attend.

  • In maths, we will be focusing on halving and sharing. We will recap numbers and then move onto halving shapes.

  • This week in topic we are looking at frogs. We will look at their life cycle, their habitats and the different types.
  • The literacy focus this week will be The Enormous Crocodile by Roald Dahl.

This week in Reception we will be exploring and learning a number of new and exciting things.
  • In maths, we will be focusing on recognising and understanding the value of money. We will be looking at money and what it means.

  • This week in topic we are looking at animals around the world. We will be looking at the animals in different continents and recognising the different skins of these animals. 
  • The literacy focus this week will be The Tiger Who Came To Tea by Judith Kerr.

This week in Reception we will be exploring and learning a number of new and exciting things.
  • In maths, we will be focusing on distance and measuring - we will be using non-standard forms to begin with, e.g. steps and then move onto standard forms such as metre sticks.

  • This week in topic we are looking at bees. We will look at the parts of a bee, the job of a bee and how they make their honey. We will taste the honey and explore the different aspects of them.
  • The literacy focus this week will be Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak.

This week in Reception we will be exploring and learning a number of new and exciting things.
  • In maths, we will be focusing on subtraction - using our number bond knowledge from last week.
  • Phonics will concentrate on the digraph 'er'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZP8zzcMZ5Ik. We will also be looking adjectives later on in the week.
  • This week in topic we are looking at butterflies. We will look at the parts of a butterfly and its life cycle etc. We have bought something special for the children to visually see their life cycle.
  • The literacy focus this week will be Stickman by Julia Donaldson.

Summer Term 1 - Week 1 - Beginning 18th April 2016
This week in Reception we will be exploring and learning a number of new and exciting things.
  • In maths, we will be focusing on number bonds to 10 and 20. For example, a number bond to 10 is 6 + 4 = 10. They will be using a variety of resources and challenging their thinking.
  • Phonics will concentrate on the digraph 'th'. Here is the song - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNZwTRQSfkY. This 'th' sound is a harsher sound e.g. this, that, with, mother and father. 
  • This week in topic we are looking at minibeasts. We will explore the children's creations and look into different minibeasts and their habitat. 
  • The literacy focus this week will be Hey There Little Ant by Philip and Hannah Hoose. This is a story about an ant, and the dilemma he faces when a boy is about to squish him. Here is the story - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3UjsvXg7Q0.
