Spring Term

Please could you come to school next week with a strong bag to take your Year 2 books home.

Thank you.

Year 3 Swimming

A kind reminder about homework.

We believe that the essential skills for pupils are that they can read, spell and can do basic Maths. Therefore reading (10 minutes) and learning times tables including related division facts for the 3, 4 and 8x should be daily activities.

All reading books should be in school every day. We are now going to change reading books on a Monday and Friday, so books must be in school to change.

Homework books are collected in on a Wednesday in order to be ready to go home with new homework on a Friday. This allows the children 5 days to complete the activities which have been set. Children are given an additional opportunity to complete homework during Homework club.

Thank you,

Miss Beirne.

Reading Celebration Week

Next Monday 26th February marks the start of our Reading Celebration Week. We wanted to share with you the exciting events we have planned at school to mark World Book Day.

Share A Story Mornings

On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, you are invited to join us at the start of the school day to share a story with your child in their classroom. You are very welcome to stay until 9.15am. We just ask due to limited space that you choose to attend just one of the four morning sessions available.

Lanchester Readathon

We are also launching our Lanchester Readathon to raise funds for our brilliant new school library space. Every child has been given a Reach For The Stars Reading Challenge Form. All the children who successfully complete all 20 of the fun challenges will be awarded a Super Reader Certificate.

If you would like to sponsor your child to read, you can donate at Parents who contribute to the Lanchester Readathon will get a donation sticker dedicated in their child’s name in a new library book. Cash donations are very welcome too. Please leave these in a sealed envelope at reception marked with your child’s name.

Library Display

We are also creating a new display in the school library and we would love to receive photos of you reading with your child. If you have a photo you would like to share, please give them to your class teacher in a named envelope next week.

World Book Day Tokens

Every child will be given a £1 World Book Day Book Token. These can be spent in WH Smith, Waterstones and all good independent bookshops. You can also exchange the voucher for one of 10 exclusive, new and completely free World Book Day books.

Dress Up As Your Favourite Book Character

Next Friday 2nd March, we would love the children to come to school dressed as their favourite book character. For some good and inexpensive ideas, please do look at the dressing up gallery on the website

Year 3 link with Longdean Secondary Year 7 Students.

Students from Longdean Seccondary School in Hemel Hempstead will be coming in to work with our pupils' on Monday 26th February from 11am - 2pm.  We have organised this experience for the Year 3's in order for them to share their experiences with an older role model as they have always been the role models of the school due to being the oldest! They will have the opportunity to share their maths learning with them and receive support in this area if needed, as well as spending some time at play.

Parent Volunteers

After half term, we will be looking at Hinduism in our RE lessons. It would be lovely if any of you would like to come and volunteer to speak to the children about Hinduism and share some of your knowledge, beliefs and passion towards your religion.

Please could you let Miss Beirne know if you are willing to participate.

Thank you.

PE Kits.

Please could you ensure your child has their PE kit in school on a Wednesday and Thursday for our PE sessions. It is very important that they have outdoor clothing (joggers and a jumper) for outdoor lessons during the colder months, as they should not be wearing school uniform for lessons.

Having fun making a 'Healthy Smoothie' as part of our English lesson for Instructions.

Welcome back! We hope you had a lovely Christmas break. Thank you for your contributions for our Curriculum enrichment last half term. We were very happy to organise a Fizz, Pop, Science workshop which developed the children's learning about 'Rocks' in an engaging and exciting way.
