LA HORA DE COMER

Spring Term 2 - Week 6 - Beginning 28th March 2016
This week in Reception we will be exploring and learning a number of new and exciting things.
  • In maths, we will be focusing on pattern. This comes in simple patterns, such as blue, red, blue, red, and goes onto more complex patterns e.g. blue, red, green, yellow, blue, red, green, yellow. The children will be using different objects, colours, numbers etc to explore pattern. 
  • Phonics will concentrate on segmenting and blending the digraphs we have learnt. A lot of these come from phase 3 of Jolly Phonics - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjKq8s8154s 
  • This week in topic we are looking at 'the farm'. We will be remembering our trip last week and looking at the different animals and jobs that come within the farm.
  • The literacy focus this week will be Rosie's Walk by Pat Hutchins
Spring Term 2 - Week 5 - Beginning 21st March 2016
This week in Reception we will be exploring and learning a number of new and exciting things.
  • In maths, we will be focusing on time; recognising o'clock and half past. 
  • Phonics will concentrate on new sounds 'igh'. This is a trigraph - three letters that make one sound.
  • This week in topic we are looking at the Easter Story. We will be exploring the story in the bible and what Easter is all about. 
  • The Willows Farm trip is on Tuesday 22nd March 2016.

Spring Term 2 - Week 4 - Beginning 14th March 2016

It's science week!

This week in Reception we will be exploring and learning a number of new and exciting things.
·         In maths, we will be focusing on recognising the numeral and being able to apply with objects. This is also called the conservation of number; this youtube clip explains further https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBvG-FG6hCE.
·         Phonics will concentrate on new sounds 'oi' e.g. oink, point, coin and 'oa' e.g. goat, float, moat, toast. Children will be applying their new knowledge in a range of activities this week.
·         In CIP (child initiated play), the focus will be on famous scientists. From Marie Curie to Albert Einstein, Peacocks will be learning about who they are and how they contributed to our society.
·         As it is science week, topic will focus on a range of science themes. Reception will be looking at habitats, life cycles, plants and many more!
Spring Term 2 - Week 3 - Beginning 07th March 2016
This week in Reception we will be exploring and learning a number of new and exciting things.
·         In maths, we will be focusing on more and less. Robins will be exploring one and two more/less than numbers 1-20.

·         In CIP (child initiated play), the story focus will be First Fabulous Facts about Planet Earth (Ladybird). We will be investigating the world we live in, including how many countries there are, what languages we speak and about animals on this planet. 
·         The children will be learning about how to look after our planet through recycling

 

Extra information: in the Curriculum area there is an Overview calendar informing what it is going to be investigate, explore and learnt during the term.

Spring Term 2 - Week 2 - Beginning 29th February 2016
This week in Reception we will be exploring and learning a number of new and exciting things.
·         In maths, we will be focusing on data handling. We will find out information within Peacocks, and look at tally charts and pictograms. 
·         Phonics will concentrate on new sounds 'oo' e.g. spoon, boot, moon. We will also look at the tricky words like, have and said. 
·         In CIP (child initiated play), the story focus will be The Naughty Bus by Jan Oke. This will work alongside our transport theme.
·         The children will be learning about road safety and transport in our local area. 
Spring Term 2 - Week 1 - Beginning 22nd February 2016
This week in Reception we will be exploring and learning a number of new and exciting things.
·         In maths, we will be focusing on measuring. We will be measuring using unconventional methods e.g. how many straws tall are you? Then, moving onto conventional methods such as rulers, metre sticks etc.

·         In CIP (child initiated play), the story focus will be The Man on the Moon by Simon Bartram . The activities will revolve around looking at the solar system, astronauts and the characters in the story.
·         The children will be learning about transport and their local area this week in topic. We will look at their 3D maps they have made and explore our surrounding areas.
Spring Term 1 - Week 6 - Beginning 8th February 2016
This week in Reception we will be learning:
·         In maths, we will be focusing on sharing. We will be making this interactive with the class by using sweets and other fun items for them to 'share' with their friends. 
·         Phonics will concentrate on segmenting and blending using all the phonemes and diagraphs so far. 
·         In CIP (child initiated play), the story focus will be The Beauty and the Beast . The activities will revolve around looking at the different characters in the story and the value of the month 'love'. 
·         The children will be learning about the Chinese New Year. We will doing lots of arts and crafts, looking at Chinese writing and other exciting activities.
Spring Term 1 - Week 5 - Beginning 01st February 2016

 

This week in Reception we will be exploring and learning a number of new and exciting things.

 

·         In maths, we will be focusing on recognising the different coins and talking about money. 

 

·         Phonics will concentrate on segmenting and blending using the sounds of the week: nk and ee. 

 

·         In CIP (child initiated play), the story focus will be The Monkey Puzzle . The activities will revolve around looking at the different animals in the story, thinking about the setting of the story and the role play area will be The Zoo.

 

·         The children will be learning about animals in topic. Reception will be talking about pets and more exotic animals. 
Spring Term 1 - Week beginning 25th January

 

This week in Reception we will be exploring and learning a number of new and exciting things.
·         In maths, we will be focusing on the names and properties of 3D shapes. The four we will begin to look at are cylinder, cube, sphere and cone. The children will learn about these shapes in adult led and independent activities.
·         Phonics will concentrate on segmenting and blending words in a sentence. We will be using our sound buttons and beginning to read more.
·         In CIP (child initiated play), the story focus will be Billy Goats Gruff. The activities will revolve around retelling the story, building the bridges for the goats to cross and the role play area will be transformed into the story setting.
·         The children will be learning about human growth in topic – from baby to old age. Reception will be looking at pictures of their teachers as toddlers and will explore the different ages in an interactive manner. 

Tuesday 26th January 2016

Linking with our learning of the week, Reception were visited by some elderly people to talk to them about growing up and their lives. They shown the children a number line up to 100 to understand how old different people are. They brought in their own pictures to show the children what it was like for them growing up, they talked about caring for the elderly and played some games.  The children sang them a song - as one of them asked if we had a choir! All of the children were very well behaved and were very respectful.

Robins class have enjoyed this week representing the story of the "Three billy goat gruff". Children created their own puppets and mask to pretend they are goats and the troll.
