Danish Affarka - Chair of Governors

I was pleased to be co-opted onto the Governing Board at Lanchester in September 2017 and am passionate about ensuring our shared vision of developing LCFS into a successful and enjoyable place for our little ones to thrive.  I am proud to now represent your Governing Board as elected Chair since 29 January 2019.

My background stems from a degree in finance, an MBA and a diploma in Non-Executive Directorship. Having worked in the financial sector for 15+ years, I specialise in Risk Management and business development, providing tactical and strategic solutions to overcome business challenges. I am passionate and have a strong focus on governance, IT
and policy setting to help drive through changes and efficiency programmes.

I currently also volunteer at Ability.NET, an IT charity providing vital support to disabled people and people of old age in their home. I separately also mentor and provide career guidance to City University London students. Until 2013, I volunteered as a director of Camden Plus Credit Union, a social enterprise established to help those financially deprived and excluded from mainstream banking.

The importance of state education and equal opportunity for children of all backgrounds is very important to me and my values. I have every confidence that our school management, in partnership with parents and the community will build on the positive milestones achieved so far and look forward to working with all stakeholders to help our children aspire to the school’s ethos of a better future.

Roger Gallucci - Chair of Resources Committee and Data Protection Officer (DPO)

I have 2 children attending Lanchester CFS and have been actively involved with the school via the PTA since my eldest, now in Year 2, started.  Some of you may know me from running the tombola at the summer fete and Christmas fayre with my partner Michelle.

My background is in accountancy and finance being an ACCA qualified accountant and holding senior finance positions for both large corporations and SME’s predominantly in the media and marketing sector.  All of these roles have included a broad business operational remit, so I have gained good knowledge and skills in HR, IT and property.  I am a commercially focussed individual which I think can be an asset as well as experience in budget planning, cost utilisation and ensuring organisations are getting value for money.

I feel honoured to be elected as Governor for the school and am looking forward to working with the senior leadership team to ensure the objectives and goals of the school are achieved.  I am also looking forward to working with the teachers and parents to ensure the children’s education is positive, enriching and enjoyable which, after all, is paramount and should always be top of the agenda.

Rishi Nathwani - Chair of Outcomes Committee

I am excited to be part of the Lanchester CFS community as a School Governor. Born, raised and schooled in Watford, I have a personal and vested interest in children’s education. This is reinforced by pursuing a career in secondary education (both state and independent) and achieving great success in key leadership roles over the past decade. I am currently a member of SLT in charge of whole school academia and curriculum.

My philosophy is that every student has unique talents, and it is the duty of care of teachers to cultivate that so that students have the best opportunities for progression and reaching destinations that meets their needs. My personal approach of ‘every minute matters’ has led to high expectations of students and staff, achieving high attainment and standards. Furthermore, I appreciate that a child’s primary education is the foundation to their future academic achievement and well-being. I am keen to make a positive contribution in this area as we prepare our Lanchester CFS children to be confident, resilient, independent and positive in their childhood journey.

Anfaal Jaffer - Finance Governor

I’m delighted to be joining the board of governors at this pivotal time for Lanchester.  I have a daughter currently attending the school, with my youngest  hopefully joining in September 2019.  Having moved to Watford and the school fairly recently, I’m  looking forward to helping the school achieve its potential and cement its position in the local community, achieving the best outcomes for all our children.  There is some great momentum to build upon, with the extremely hardworking teachers and school support staff as well as parents, in order to provide an excellent education for all of our children.

My background is in finance – I qualified as an accountant many moons ago and have since held positions of increasing seniority and responsibility in a large pharmaceutical company.  I’m adept at building relationships, managing change and reviewing processes to ensure efficient resource allocation, which I believe will be useful skills for Lanchester in this phase.

11/3/19

Mohini Subhedar - HR Governor

I feel honoured to be elected as Governor for the school and am looking forward to working with the school’s leadership team and applying my skills to the school setting to make a difference.

I am a HR, organisation design and change management professional with deep functional expertise, and robust programme management competencies and hold a master’s degree in business management and numerous other professional qualifications.  My background a  includes wide ranging experience within blue chip organisations in the financial services sector for over 25 years, I have lived and worked in 4 countries.  Through the different roles, I have gained significant knowledge and expertise in multiple areas, such as business transformation, organisation design and restructuring, talent management, process definition, change management, governance, centralisation, shared services and offshoring.  A common theme has been establishing structure, process and practices which enable strong governance and effectiveness.

I am a Trustee of the Help Smile Trust (HST).  HST is a small charity that provides medical aid through surgery camps and direct financial assistance to other small charities that do great work in disadvantaged areas in India and Africa.  HST's work is carried out by volunteers, that means all the money raised is spent towards identified causes. Apart from its on-going commitments, HST has exciting new plans to extend its activities to include providing support to local community in Hertfordshire.

Jan 2019

David Tattersall - Health & Safety Governor

I have lived in Watford for the last 20 years and have a child at the school. I have a degree in Physics and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education, and more recently I have had training in financial reporting and bid-writing. I work at a London college, teaching science and serving on the senior leadership team. Particular responsibilities are for estates, staff training and resources. I believe in inclusive education that allows all children, whatever their background, to achieve their potential.

My daughter has had a very good experience at Lanchester so far. I joined the governing body because I wanted to help make the school even better, and will continue to offer my skills and time to provide support where I can.

Dr Aruna Abhyankar - Safeguarding, Inclusion, Health & Wellbeing Governor

Aruna, is a consultant paediatric surgeon and urologist with substantial experience as a surgeon in the NHS and private sector. She is now a Watfordian with her own children having attended local state schools.

She has practical knowledge as a doctor of supporting children with complex needs as well as of a fine balance of funding and demands on public sector.  She enjoys teaching and mentorship and is passionate about languages, arts, health and wellbeing.  She believes in developing a collaborative vision for children’s empowerment where the family, the child and the school all contribute in their own ways.

Our Staff Governor

Hayley Old

I am pleased to be representing the staff of Lanchester Community Free School as a staff governor. I first joined the school in September 2016 and have enjoyed watching the school grow from strength to strength. I am the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) as well as a Year 1 teacher. I am extremely passionate about both roles and believe in a high quality education for all pupils. I have always had a child-centred approach and I will be bringing this approach with me as well as a staff perspective in my role as staff governor.
