Helen Lockham

I am Principal for both Ascot Road and Lanchester Community Free Schools and share my time equally across both sites.  I have taught since 1995 after completing my teaching degree as a mature student (with my four children at school).  I have a passion for enabling every child to achieve, excel and reach their potential.  I have taught in a wide range of schools within Wales and England.

I have been a Headteacher for nine years in four schools.  I have experienced three Ofsted inspections as Headteacher in two previous schools.  I have led our team to achieve good with outstanding features in these inspections, having turned one school around from requires improvement.  I undertook my Masters in Educational Management while teaching full-time.

I believe in supporting staff and pupils to recognise their areas of strength and development through timely coaching, mentoring and asking challenging questions.  I have used my ability to train, develop and inspire others to become leaders so that the succession planning for each previous school ensured a strong leadership team to continue the excellent learning when I left.  I believe that unlocking potential is the key to outstanding leadership. I really enjoy being a principal and recognise the responsibility, accountability and energy which is required to continue to engage all (staff and pupils) in being reflective learners.

I strongly believe that if we teach pupils to: recognise values; know how behaviour relates to values; and recognise how we can support our local community then we will be training up outstanding citizens who will go places … for a better future.  I model our values to all, and expect this of every adult who walks into our school.

I enjoy working with children, being in the classroom with them, engaging them in play on the playground at lunch-time and sharing my happiness with others.  I work tirelessly to provide an amazing learning environment with fantastic learning opportunities within our schools as I recognise that enjoyment is key to learning skills which will stay with a child right through to adulthood.

I am very fortunate to have a loving and supportive husband of over 40 years, who still accompanies me into toy shops even though he is well aware that I will play with the toys to see how useful they would be in school.  My four children are now all grown up and married.  I am a proud and doting grandma to more than a rugby team of grandchildren.  Family get-togethers feature in my diary and are extremely important oases within my otherwise hectic life.  One of my other passions is to visit new and interesting places, both in the UK and around the world.  A time to relax, experience interesting cultures and learn new languages.

Pulvi Popat - Chair of Governors (Parent Governor)

I have lived in Watford for the last 14 years, and both my children attend Lanchester Community Free School. I am passionate about education and like all parents I want the best for my children and the school’s provision of education both academic and social is paramount. In my role as Chair of Governors, I will endeavour to support the school in achieving their milestones and will be active to ensure all our children are happy, confident and achieve to the best of their abilities. I am an experienced marketing professional who specialises in internet and email marketing. I have a BA in Education Studies and a MA in Marketing Management.

Andrew Battersbee

I have worked within schools since 2011; first within a special needs school and then a mainstream environment. Both were 'all-through' schools so I have had the pleasure of teaching all the year groups ranging from Early Years to Year 13.

My specialisms include primary English and Mathematic interventions and A-Level Psychology; two very different ends of curriculums but it keeps me busy!

I have managed Teaching Assistants and ensured that tailored interventions have taken place within learning environments whilst also being responsible for children with additional needs. This may be SEND, emotional, medical or behavioural difficulties.

I am a proactive and passionate person when it comes to raising standards within education and feel that it is crucial for us all to ensure that we are providing primary school aged children, the best education possible. It is not just a case of SATs results or reading and writing levels. Our input affects future outcomes for these students and they deserve the very best.

Binita Mehta-Parmar

I am a proud Governor of Lanchester Community Free School, as well as local resident, formerly of Hempstead Road and now just round the corner from the school in Nascot Village. I went to Cassiobury School myself, followed by Watford Girls and Warwick University. I was also a local Councillor for the area representing the Conservative party. I became a Founding Governor of Lanchester CFS in November 2013 because of my interest in education, with the hope that my relatively recent local experience could help to make the school a big success, enjoyed and appreciated by pupils, parents, staff and residents alike!

Rishi Nathwani

I am excited to be part of the Lanchester CFS community as a School Governor. Born, raised and schooled in Watford, I have a personal and vested interest in children’s education. This is reinforced by pursuing a career in secondary education (both state and independent) and achieving great success in key leadership roles over the past decade. My philosophy is that every student has unique talents, and it is the duty of care of teachers to cultivate that so that students have the best opportunities for progression and reaching destinations that meets their needs. My personal approach of ‘every minute matters’ has led to high expectations of students and staff, achieving high attainment and standards. Furthermore, I appreciate that a child’s primary education is the foundation to their future academic achievement and well-being. I am keen to make a positive contribution in this area as we prepare our Lanchester CFS children to be confident, resilient, independent and positive in their childhood journey.

Danish Affarka

I am pleased to join your children’s school as governor and with my own daughter having started in the 2017 reception cohort, I have a vested responsibility in ensuring our shared vision of developing LCFS into a successful and enjoyable place for our little ones to thrive.

My background includes a degree in finance, an MBA and a diploma in Non-Executive Directorship. Having worked in the financial sector for 15+ years, I specialise in Risk Management and Business Development, providing tactical and strategic solutions to overcome business challenges. I am passionate and have a strong focus on governance, IT and policy setting to help drive through changes and efficiency programmes.

I currently also volunteer at Ability.NET, an IT charity providing vital support to disabled people and people of old age in their home. I separately also mentor and provide career guidance to City University London students. Until 2013, I volunteered as a director of Camden Plus Credit Union, a social enterprise established to help those financially deprived and excluded from mainstream banking.

The importance of state education and equal opportunity for children of all backgrounds is very important to me and my values. I have every confidence that our school management, in partnership with parents and the community will build on the positive milestones achieved so far.

Yvonne Holdsworth (Parent Governor)

My daughter is a pupil at Lanchester CFS and I hope my younger two children will join in time. I am also the Co-Chair of Friends of Lanchester CFS (registered charity: 1161580). I want to help Lanchester CFS become the best school possible for our children and our community.

I’ve worked in partnership marketing for 19 years leading and delivering high profile projects including National School Sport Week, Community Fund and The Big Lunch.

I will use my experience and expertise as a mother and marketer to help:

  • Define and improve communications between school and parents.

  • Develop relationships with our community.

  • Challenge the school ensuring our children have the best education possible.

Roger Gallucci

I have 2 children attending Lanchester CFS and have been actively involved with the school via the PTA since my eldest, now in Year 2, started.  Some of you may know me from running the tombola at the summer fete and Christmas fayre with my partner Michelle.

My background is in accountancy and finance being an ACCA qualified accountant and holding senior finance positions for both large corporations and SME’s predominantly in the media and marketing sector.  All of these role have included a broad business operational remit, so I have gained good knowledge and skills in HR, IT and property.  I am a commercially focussed individual which I think can be an asset as well as experience in budget planning, cost utilisation and ensuring organisations are getting value for money.

I feel honoured to be elected as Governor for the school and am looking forward to working with the senior leadership team to ensure the objectives and goals of the school are achieved.  I am also looking forward to working with the teachers and parents to ensure the children’s education is positive, enriching and enjoyable which, after all, is paramount and should always be top of the agenda.
