Autumn Term

Week 1/2
Peacocks Class have had an amazing start to the new school year. We have been enjoying the company of all our new and existing friends. All of the children in Peacocks Class have settled in nicely and have found their feet within Reception.

Our topic is Houses and Homes, and this week we have been reading The Three Little Pigs. The children have enjoyed the activities that have accompanied this:
Construction – building houses out of different materials and seeing which one can be blown down by the Big Bad Wolf!
Art and Design – making masks for the characters and creating a range of pictures in groups.
Role Play – our class circus tent has been transformed into the Three Little Pigs houses, and children are retelling the story using our and wooden spoon characters.
And many more!
Peacocks have had an incredible start to Reception this half term. They have all settled in fantastically to the school and its routines. I am proud of each and everyone of them for displaying many of the schools values, everyday. Here's a little bit about what we have been doing this half term:

Maths
In maths we have been focusing on numbers 0-20 and beyond. The children have been working on counting, representing numbers with objects, the formation of numbers and we have now progressed to one more/one less. All Peacocks have shown Miss Hudson and Miss Nada what they are capable of in this subject.

Phonics
In phonics we have learnt the sounds SATPINEHCK and looked at many tricky words. We have begun to write these sounds, CVC words and simple sentences. Peacocks have really settled into this subject, and they all turn their 'phonics brains on' every morning.

Guided Reading
In guided reading, the children have been reading coloured banded books, improving their fine motor skills and expanding their phonics knowledge.

Cassiobury Park
Not only Peacocks, but the whole of Reception enjoyed their trip to Cassiobury Park for their Autumn walk. We found leaves of all shapes and colours, conkers and saw some different animals. I would also like to say a big thank you to all of the parent helpers on this trip.
