Week 5 - Beginning 28th November 2016
Lots of XMas play practise will be happening in the next two weeks - I hope we have our costumes! :)
Library books:
Your children will now be given the opportunity to 'check out' books from our school library. Each Wednesday, we will be going to the library in order for your children to check out, return and check out again new books. If your child has not finished with their book or does not want to return it just yet - that is fine!
Please note that no child will be given two books to check out at once and they can only check out a new book once the old one has been returned.

Week 4 - Beginning 21st November 2016
- In maths this week, the children will be continuing to explore subtraction.
- In phonics this week, the children will be learning the sounds l, ll, ss and ff.
- In CIL, we will be reading the story The Jolly Postman
- Art week - the children will be involved in different aspects of art and at the end of the week there will be an auction for their pieces!

Abacus: I have updated Abacus with some relevant maths games for the children to play at home.
Week 2 - Beginning 7th November 2016
- In maths this week, the children will be continuing their exploration into adding two sets of objects together.
- In phonics this week, the children will be segmenting and blending words using all the sounds they have learnt so far.
- In CIL, we will be reading the story The Rainbow Fish.
- In topic, the children will be discussing PSED through making relationships etc, E-Safety and Remembrance Sunday. Jam packed week!

- In maths this week, the children will be exploring one more and one less in numbers.

- In CIL, we will be reading the story Skip Through The Seasons - as last week we were very busy rehearsing for our lovely Harvest assembly.
- In topic, the children will be exploring Diwali, as it is coming up in our half term. If any parents celebrate this festival, please let your teachers know!
Thank you all for an amazing first half term. The staff and children have thoroughly enjoyed it and I hope the parents have too! Look forward to see them all back after the week's break - remember to rest up!

Week 6 - Beginning 10th October 2016
- In maths this week, the children will be continuing our learning about 2D shapes - their names and their properties.
- In phonics this week, the children will be blending all of the sounds we have learnt this term.
- In CIL, we will be reading the story Skip Through The Seasons - to go alongside our Autumn Walk on Wednesday afternoon.
- In topic, the children will be exploring the seasons further.

Week 5 - Beginning 3rd October 2016
Week 4 - Beginning 26th September 2016
- In maths this week, the children will be learning to order numbers 1-10 and beyond!
- In phonics this week, the children will be start to blend the sounds we have already taught them (SATPIN). For example, they will be reading words such as sat, pin, pat, sit etc. Here is a blending tutorial using Jolly Phonics https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wogMY6FBrAo. The children will use sound buttons - these are small dots underneath the letters that make a sound.
- In CIL, we will be reading the story Whoever You Are. This is a story about children all around the world, and how no matter what we look like we are all equal.
- In topic, the children will be exploring International Week.
We are also beginning our afternoon sessions - PSED, Music, Spanish, Science and Show and Tell.
Week 3 - Beginning 19th September 2016
- In maths this week, the children will be learning about the numbers 1-10. Looking at 1:1 correspondence (this means being able to match one object with another object/person e.g. counting pom poms into the numicon holes). They will also be beginning to order these numbers. Challenge: numbers beyond 10!

- In CIL, we will be reading the story The Three Little Pigs, and engage in a range of activities surrounding this.
- In topic, the children will be looking at Houses and Homes.
Week 2 - Beginning 12th September 2016
- Turtles have been introduced to the members of staff this week, they have experienced the outdoor EYFS area and began to implement the rules around the school.
- In phonics this week, we explored the children's prior knowledge and progressed to the sounds 'S A T'. Listen to the first set of letters, to familiarise yourself and your child with the 'pure' sounds they make https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1he7WQ0N-_M
- Maths this week has been dedicated to 'getting to know' our resources. They children have experimented with different ways of using the mathematical resources such as cubes and counters. Challenge: take any object from your house and see how you can use it mathematically. Can it make a pattern with another object? Which one is taller/shorter?
- This week, Turtle class have been getting to know each other through our topic 'All About Me'. This is very important for the children to have a sense of belonging in the classroom.
