Fire Fighter Visit
Today we had an amazing visit from Watford fire fighters. We learnt all about a fire fighter's job, their protective clothing and what to do if there is a fire. We then re-enacted the great fire of London by setting our thatched house models on fire.
Friends of Lanchester
Thank you to the Friends of Lanchester for all your continued support. As a school we benefit from all your hard work and efforts. The funds raised have already purchased playground equipment, extra reading books, sports equipment, guitars and much more. If you have not had any involvement in the FoL there is never a better time than the present. With one of the biggest events about to occur: The Christmas Fayre, FoL need your support and so does Lanchester CFS. If you have any questions on how you can support please speak with Claire Masini or Yvonne Holsworth.
Science: Rocket Making!
"That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind"
This week we have been learning all about Neil Armstrong and the incredible things he achieved in his life time. To support this learning we had a go at making our own "space rockets" using a milk bottle and a paper rocket. We then spoke about how the rocket moves and the forces acting upon it.
Maths: This week in maths we have been learning how to add three digit numbers. We have been using column addition to help us solve some really tricky problems. The children have all worked very hard and have all shown great determination and perseverance with these challenging problems. Well done Pandas!
Literacy: This week in Literacy we have been continuing to learn about the fantastic Wright brothers. We have been using the 5Ws (Who, What, Where, When & Why) to collect information ready to write a non-chronological report.
Please check your child's homework book to find out their Literacy target is for the week.
This week it has been international week. We have had lots of fun learning about different countries and cultures around the world. The children have also been sharing their knowledge of different countries.
Junior Leadership Team (JLT)
This week the children had a chance to vote for their JLT representatives for Panda Class. We would all like to congratulate Holly and Gerrard for being elected. We are very excited to see the fantastic work they will be doing.
If you would like to know more about JLT please see the JLT page.
Following our visit from Pilot Tracey we decided to carry out a science experiment based on flight. The children had the opportunity to explore how different variables such as; weight, wing size and plane size affect flight.
Pilot Tracey's Visit
This week we had a fantastic and inspirational visit from Pilot Tracey. She is a British aviator who is renowned for re-creating the solo exploits of Amy Johnson. We learnt that she flies in a plane called a Biplane, which is a plane that has two sets of wings. We also learnt that these planes are very dangerous so she is a very brave women! It was so great having a chance to meet such a fascinating person and it has created endless lines of inquiry for our children to pursue.
